"And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him." Genesis 32:1
The last few hours of a baby's life find parents immersed under a flood of overwhelming and conflicting emotions -beginning with the elation and absolute joy of their baby's birth, moving through the shock and devastation when they learn that something went wrong, and finally coming face to face with the harsh truth, whether accepted or not, that their baby's time here will soon come to an end.
Those working the NICU give their utmost to save this little life.  Relatives and friends offer every form of comfort they can think to offer.  But, in the end, there's little a parent wants more than to just sit quietly together -alone with their little angel.
Sadly, the environments of most NICUs are seldom able to accommodate such needs.  When it comes time to say 'goodbye', parents need a place to make their own memories, and in their own unique way -undisturbed, without distraction, and without obligation.
" The Jacob's Wings Foundation" was established for this very reason.
It is our mission to establish private rooms within Neonatal Intensive Care Units for parents of babies that have passed, or will be passing within 24-48 hours. Whether these parents need to cry or smile, accept or deny, they should be able to do so privately -just mommy, and daddy, and this little, sweet miracle.
After all, Life, no matter how short it may be, is most certainly a miracle.
